Can You Install a Ceiling Fan where there is No Light Fixture in Juno Beach, FL? Electrical Box, Wiring & More

Sometimes the summer months can be as brutal as they are expensive when it comes to keeping your home cool. One fixture that many people aren’t utilizing is a ceiling fan. If you don’t have them in your home, you may not realize how drastically they can change the way that your home feels. You can find that you can save on cooling costs when you have ceiling fans because they can help the space feel much cooler than it actually is as it works to move the air around constantly. Simon Electric is here to talk about what the process looks like to install a ceiling fan when you don’t have an existing fixture.

How to Install a Ceiling Fan Where There is No Fixtures Exist

The first thing that needs mentioning here is that installing a fixture where there isn’t an existing fixture, is something that needs to be done by an electrician. This is not a DIY project as it carries with it real risk of electrocution when working with wiring. That being said, this is what a ceiling fan installation looks like when no fixture currently exists.
– Shut Off Power: The first and most important thing that needs to be done is to turn off the power to the circuit that will power the ceiling fan. That breaker needs to be switched to the off position to avoid getting electrocuted.
– Choose Ceiling Fan Location: When hanging a ceiling fan, you have to understand that they can be quite heavy. This means that support is going to be needed to ensure the ceiling fan isn’t going to come crashing down. A ceiling fan can be anywhere between 15 and 50 pounds. This will be considered when choosing the placement for the ceiling fan.
– Install Electrical Box: A new electrical box will need to be placed once the location is determined. If there is a joist where the fan will be, the box can simply be attached to it. If it is between two joists, a brace and saddle will need to be installed to give appropriate support.
– Run Electrical Wire: Now the wire will need to be ran from the switch on the wall that will turn the fan on and off to the location that the ceiling fan will be installed. Fish tape is used to feed the wire from one location to the other through the wall and ceiling.
– Mounting Ceiling Fan Light Fixture: Now it is time to get the ceiling fan mounted. Since they can be heavy, it can be challenging to hold the fan up and get the wires connected simultaneously.
