Electrical Panel Components in Aberdeen, FL; Main, Double & Single Pole Breaker s & More

Your house is outfitted with a sewer system that takes the water to the rooms that need it and empty the sewer water from your toilets and showers back out. The pipes and lines feed in from the street and run up into the house. The other major system in your house is the electrical system. It also starts at the street and is fed into the house through a series of wiring and outlets. The electricity in your house is important and each homeowner should know what signs indicate a problem and where to check the electrical panel. The wires from the street come into the house and all of them are fed through a single portal called the electrical panel. You want to understand your panel and what is in it since it is your first spot to check when there is a problem with a light or outlet. Simon Electric outlines what you will find in your electrical panel.

Main Breaker

You first need to know where the electrical panel is. Usually it can be found out in the garage or on the exterior of your house. It is commonly on the side of the house near your electrical meter. When you open the panel you will see lots of switches, numbers and labels. One of the main things you should know is in there is the main breaker. There is a larger breaker that is basically a switch you can use to shut off the power to your house. The great thing about this particular switch is that it is where all the electricity to the house starts. When the switch is flipped you are stopping the flow of electricity to the house in its entirety. This is needed when you have an emergency and you are unsure of where the issue may be occurring from.

Double Pole Breaker

The next type of switch or breaker you will see in the panel is called a double pole breaker. The double pole is attached to two particular switches that are working in unison with an area of the house. These double pole breakers are usually used to send electricity to larger appliances that need more amps to run than a standard plug. When the appliance has a problem it can trip that breaker and it will then need to be reset.

Single Pole Breaker

The single pole breaker is the type of switch that you will see more of in the panel. The switch that is single is attached to areas of the house that are standard. These are standard switches, lights and outlets in a house. These breakers are set to trip when there is a problem with an outlet or if there is a surge in that area of the house. If you notice that there is a problem with an area you need to check the breaker to see if it has been tripped. You can reset it when it trips. If it trips again it is best to call an electrician.
