Simon Electric Offers to Help Dogs Stay Cool in the Hot Summer Weather in West Palm Beach, FL

You may have missed it, but Simon Electric was on the news! On August 8th, we were interviewed by WPTV about our efforts in making animals more comfortable during the hottest months of the year. The Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control have a crisis on their hands, in that they can’t keep the animals in their care cool. Here is how we have found a way to help in this effort.

The Cooling Problem with AC; Electrical Load Capacity Reached

After seeing videos of dogs that were in hot cages with nothing more than fans to keep them cool, Simon Electric knew we had to find a way to help. The only way Raphael Simon could take immediate action was the donation of man hours. The shelter electrical load had reached its capacity which made it virtually impossible to use any A/C units to help cool down the animals. At Simon Electric, we value the life of dogs and other animals just as much as we do ourselves. We have decided to not only donate our time, but our materials and resources as well to do whatever it takes to get these animals the help they need.

Hot Summer Weather Safety Tips for Pets

Animals are often left in the heat without any reprieve or a way to cool themselves off. Because they can’t vocalize this need, it is our responsibility to ensure they are safe on our own. Here are some things to remember during the heat of the summer to keep your pets safe.
Never leave your pet in the car. It doesn’t matter if you are just quickly running into a store and aren’t planning to leave them for an extended period of time. The interior of a vehicle will heat up rapidly even when the windows are rolled down.
Don’t rely on a fan to do the trick. When trying to keep your pets cool, a fan doesn’t do anything to help them cool off. They aren’t like humans, and their bodies don’t cool like ours. Dogs usually cool off through their feet. This is why cooling mats are so wonderful for dogs and are on the wish list at the ACC.
Provide shade and water for your pet. When you leave your animal outside, ensure there is always a decent amount of shade for them and plenty of water.
Prepare for power outages. During the summer, you may experience power outages with summer storms. Have a plan in place beforehand that will keep yourselves as well as your pets safe in the case it should happen.
